Edit SpotAbout
Very fun left when tide, swell direction and period are perfect. If everything isn't perfect it is generally a very concentrated peak with a mushy shoulder, or on big long period swells it just closes out.
Atmosphere:
Generally not heavy with a negative vibe unless your boat arrives with more than 2 surfers. Insta-crowds cause anchor failures. If there's already 5+ guys out, sit and wait for someone to paddle in before you paddle out.
Additional Info:
Come alone or with one friend max. Longboards without leashes only. Be ready to paddle hard or eat the cliffs behind you. Very easy to get caught inside, and once pushed onto the shelf it's too shallow to duckdive. Possible to get "stuck" at the base of the cliffs on a rising swell if unable to paddle out through large whitewater. If you're stuck it's a trespassing ticket plus the cost of rescuing your dumb ass.
Location
Loading...Access
Only boat access, no protected anchorage. Must anchor outside break. High currents created by ebb/flow of San Diego Bay can drag anchors as evidenced by the boats that wash up every few months. Use extreme caution. No more than 3 surfers per boat, any more than that has been known to cause anchor failures. Near the tip of Point Loma one spot north of the Coast Guard and Ranger stations, south of sewage treatment plant outfall.
