Hartlepool - Steetley

Edit Spot
About

Nobody uses this spot anymore, it was very popular a few years ago but everone seems to have sold out to saltburn and redcar, which ain't as good. Am not just saying that cause am a local, ive rode both and Steetley is better! There are some very good breaks North of Saltburn!Luve a little, go and explore!

Atmosphere:
This is a big wave spot, it is an almost totaly northerly facing beach which means it goes off in a big way when the swell comes from the north. It has no headland or reef which takes the power out of the wave and is just raw swell. Can be very very good pealing waves which ussually are on average head high and can go upto stupid sizes. The water quality is water you would expect for this coast, though it is getting cleaner, besides that it is the ussual brown chocolate colour! It can be a very dangerous place if you stray to near the pier or groins which come from the factory and avoid the huge sucky thing at the end of the pier. Besides that, provided you don't mind being pinned to the bottom a lot and surfing stupidly sized waves, it s a very good spot which always seems to be bigger than everywhere else!

The break itself works on either side of steetley pier. Right and left depending on which side of the pier you use. Accsess is very good, head towards old Hartlepool (Headland and follow the signs for Britmag works (1st left and left again as you pass the entrance to the headland).Failing this just look for the HUGE old factory to the north of the town (with the chimney)and try to get to that. Park ussually outside the factory entrance (where the security hut is).
