Punta Morena

About

This is a fun spot. Its a long beach running NE to SE ... The angle of the coast is favorable for E amd South and SE swells .. There is a rocky point outcropping, so its good to catch both sides of depending on the swell and wind direction . And a good place to use as a reference when out in the water of where the wave breaks/. Heavy beach break when its firing. The inside bar walls up and allows for cover. And the outside break is nice walls coming out of deep water..

Atmosphere:
Punta Morena is a chill little spot. There is no major commercial development on the East side Cozumel , (windward side) .. Nothing but a few restaurant / bar/ gift shops dotted along the coast. But if your looking for a beautiful coastline and long rides this is the spot. Its a tubing wave, but it offers power, azure colored waters and no surfers or sharks in site. Been there twice , once in Dec 14' and Oct 16' and was the only one in the water both times..

Additional Info:
Park at the Punta Morena Bar/Grill. Rent a board from the surfboard rental stand for $35 an hour. Walk up the beach towards the North and paddle out. Few rocks and sand mix. When its 3ft plus you wanna time punching through the first break, it can fold pretty heavy .. Once on the outside you can get into the waves pretty easy with a 9'0 board. The reform to the inside is quick . Be ready to punch through the wall.
