Watamu Bay

Edit Spot
About

Secluded small fun wave with a barrel or 2 in a session. Dangerous if your not a good swimmer.

Atmosphere:
It's a great spot, simply because there is NOBODY!!! You have the wave for yourself, the water is warm, palm trees are waving... Surfing has not really been discovered in Kenya, but it really has potential. I am not saying it has world class waves (at least not the ones I surfed), but you can really have fun on clean waves!!!!!

Additional Info:
Be careful when you want to paddle back and the tide is going out. Make sure you have some energy left, because you have to pass through some channel where all the water from the bay flows back to the open sea, and it's not easy to get through. And mind the reef, it's very shallow...

Go to Watamu bay beach and paddle out from Sun palm Beach hotel. The paddle is quite a distance (300m), but the waves that break on the reef are really worth it. Go in the morning, because then most of the time there is no wind and you have clean powerful waves. Does not work often and is very easy to get cought on the inside and end up spending most of your session trying to get back out. It is shallow, heavy and a short. worth a surf if your desparate!!!
