Well i lived across the beach, at a place called the backpackers (run by an aussie!) for about two months, this break is basically for beginners, but i have had some good waves , cooking little lefts and rights, fast and fun, if you walk about 200 metres up the coast, there is a sand bank, which works a bit better.
Additional Info:
Hotdog surf place, very easy to find. A lot of fishermen on this beach. It is a plce to eat great food, meet simple and nice Florianópolis native people, learn hoe to surfe and contemplate de incredible nature around.

From the mainland, drive to the east side through Saudade's avenue. Then, take the Lagoa da Conceição'side. After you get the lagoa da Conceição, keep drive through the Rendeiras's Ave. When you get the Joaquina's way, turn left to the asphalt again e go through Mole beach up and down the hill. When you see a canal, with boats and a great nature, you are near to the Barra's entrance. Stay tuned and just follow the cars so you will get the beach. Very easy to find in a beautiful sighting road.
