Luquillo - La Pared
Edit SpotAbout
Great place to teach people how to surf. A nice 3-5 foot wave with different size breaks within sets. The water is warm, sandy, and clean. Great conditions for All Level Surfers. able to surf- it is that easy here. If you want a good break go to the point on the left, you will see a log stuck in the reef. Paddle out and wait, you will have a nice left break that is longer than La Pared and makes a nice small barrel once in a while. Its best for beginners to look for the sand bars- but it is the best for beginners or for those who want to have some fun. Ive seen too many beginners/intermediate surfers say they know how to surf and get pulled out by the rip current and dont know how to come back, then need to be rescued. Be smart. Lessons are always good to become familiar with the area. Advanced surfers be ready to learn to navigate the great and powerful ripcurrents of La Pared.
Atmosphere:
On a weekday- there is no one here, except for Surf Lessons taught by Surfing Puerto Rico. If your looking to get in the water and are not familiar with the area check im with them. They will let you know about the current rip currents and conditions. You will have some surfers and bodyboarders show up around 5PM.. And when there's a perfect swell expect the surf to be semi-crowded. Respect the locals.
Additional Info:
Park right on the beach. You are literally in a beach barrio but the locals are friendly. There are some condos but in between are Airbnbs, Hostels & a small Hotel. Go to Surfing Puerto Rico Surf truck to rent boards if you need for $20 each a day).
